Bio
![]() my current project: after play... My specific areas of interest include community and vernacular photography. I believe photographs, given the right context, can encourage us to care. I currently collaborate with NGOs, writers, artists, activists, students, and scholars, from whom I am always learning about the good that is being done in the world. My work is internationally published in all media. Late 2006 a scholarship allowed me to earn a Master of Arts in Photography at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth. Helping visionaries do good things for good people is my true passion. One such visionary is Damas Gisimba who runs Gisimba Memorial Centre, an orphanage on the outskirts of Kigali, Rwanda. A hero of the 1994 genocide, Damas risked his life so that others could not just survive but thrive. 15 years later new children regularly arrive at the orphanage's gate and he ushers them in with open arms and a warm heart. Treating AIDS and malaria, funding tuition and facing food shortages are a part of his everyday responsibilities caring for 160+ children. In 2008 I compiled a book showcasing the Photography Workshop at Gisimba Memorial Centre in 2006. In 2009 I published "Mother With Child: Portraits of Rwanda," a collection of photographs depicting Rwandan women and their children. "Mother With Child" is on sale at The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. I am especially inspired by two not-for-profits: Zana Briski's "Kids With Cameras" and Rosamond Carr's "Through the Eyes of Children: The Rwanda Project." I live on the south coast of England with my husband and baby daughter. In 2009 I completed the Integral Intermediate Teacher Training course in Dorset, UK. When not with my family, I can be found with a book, practicing on the yoga mat, gabbing with girlfriends, or taking a walk. I am inspired by courageous hearts and brave souls.
